Undergraduate
Brass Quintet Competition: All ensemble members should be enrolled as undergraduate
students at a college, university, conservatory, or music school. Required
competition repertoire (first round): Skip Gray-Independence Fanfare; Anthony Holborne-Three Pieces; Clint Needham-Brass
Quintet No. 1, first movement; Victor Ewald-Brass
Quintet No. 1 (second movement).
Graduate/Professional
Brass Quintet Competition: Open to all graduate and professional brass quintet
ensembles. No age requirements. Required repertoire (first round)
Lauren Bernofsky-Duxbury Fanfare; Jan Bach-Laudes (movement 2 “Scherzo); Raymond Mase, arr.-A Suite of 17th Century Dances (No. 2 “Pavanne” and No. 6 “Gailliard”);
Clint Needham-Brass Quintet No. 1 (last movement).
Final Round: Groups chosen as finalists should have a 50 minute program prepared that includes the above repertoire and other repertoire selected by the ensemble. Brass Quintet repertoire selected should be original repertoire or repertoire with a historic reference; that is, five part brass repertoire or repertoire composed for cornetts, sackbuts or other early brass instruments. One transcription/arrangement will be allowed (in addition to the required selections)for the program.
All participating groups that wish to be reviewed in the Journal of the IBCMF (released post-conference) will have this option. These will be positive reviews such as found in the various brass guild journals. Participating ensembles will have access to IBCMF guest artists for coaching.
