Biography
Since studying with William Vacchiano at the Juilliard School (M.M.) Bill Jones has given over 3000 solo/chamber music performances in a career that has taken him across the United States, to Canada, and to Europe. He has served in both permanent and guest positions as a visiting artist, professor, faculty performer or teacher at twelve different colleges and universities in the southeastern United States. An active solo and chamber music performer, Jones maintains an international presence that has him performing with orchestras, bands, and brass bands and on concert series.

As an internationally published author his article on brass quintet music appears in the latest edition of the New Groves Dictionary of Music and Musicians. He is currently finishing the Brass Chamber Music Guide, the definitive reference for that genre. In collaboration with the American Brass Quintet, Jones and ABQ hornist David Wakefield have assembled a comprehensive listing of non-transcription brass quintet music that appears at the ABQ web site and is constantly updated by performers and composers. (Americanbrassquintet.org) As a brass quintet musician Jones has performed with the Chestnut Brass Company, Classic Brass, East Tennessee State University Faculty Brass, University of Kentucky Faculty Brass, Eastern Kentucky University Faculty Brass, and the Appalachian State University Faculty Brass. He currently is principal trumpet with the Appalachian Brass Orchestra (large brass ensemble based in Tennessee). Early music performances on the natural trumpet and cornetto have included engagements with the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, Sandhills Consort, and the Trinity Chamber Orchestra. As an orchestral performer Jones has performed with the Augusta Symphony, Lexington Philharmonic, Knoxville Symphony, Western Piedmont Symphony, Nassau Symphony, Oak Ridge Symphony, and Winston-Salem Symphony.

Reviews:
The News and Observer (Raleigh, NC)
"Trumpeter Closes with Brassy Show" (Headline)
"If you were not part of the audience, you really missed it......what an opportunity to hear this fine performer."

William Vacchiano, former principal trumpet, New York Philharmonic.
"....one of the outstanding soloists today...."

Savannah News-Press
"He has a brilliant tone and an easy self-assured style."

Paul Phillips, conductor
"His playing at the concert (soloist with Greensboro Symphony) was superb. He is a first-rate musician and his virtuosity is astonishing."

Dr. Keith Amstutz, Professor of Trumpet, USC
"The varied selection of music offered something for every taste and the whole program was performed with great sound, control and intonation. I spent about half of this week's master class talking about ensemble, balance and clarity. Your program was my example of what is possible if everyone listens and understands the role of each performer.

This was the first live performance on cornetto and sackbut on our campus in many years and the music students in the audience were amazed at the tone quality and dexterity you displayed on these instruments. I have discussed the cornetto and played recordings but that is a poor substitute for experiencing a live performance.

I really appreciated your comments in the Master Class. You and I share the same philosophy and pedagogical approach so to hear another trumpeter supporting the same ideas will encourage more careful work in the practice room and lead to more musical performances."
